Bio - Jan 07 (I know you said brief--but it's too hard to compress 30+ years briefly!)

Sandra Nobles and I married in June, 1973 after my first year in medical school at Jackson. We had our first child, Amy, in 1977 during my residency in Family Medicine at UMC. We ended up, please forgive us!!!, in Starkville in a family practice group in town. Our second child, Benny (Binford III) was born while we lived in Starkville.

But Starkville wasn't the end of our "missionary" adventures. In fact, it was only the start. In 1981, we left Starkville to be appointed as career missionaries with the Southern Baptist Foreign Mission Board and went to a mission hospital in Nalerigu, Ghana, West Africa. I developed a blood clot in my leg in late 1984 and had to come home and resign--not able to return to Africa as a missionary.

I went on Faculty in the Family Medicine Residency at UMC in Jackson for 12 years, then went into ambulatory clinic practice associated with St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson for 3 years. For the past 6 years, I have been back at UMC on Faculty in the Pediatric Department. I now work in the Infectious Disease Division and manage the HIV medications of pregnant women with HIV/AIDS referred to the OB Specialty Clinic at UMC. I serve as a consultant on a statewide basis for reducing HIV transmission during pregnancy--which can be as low as 1-2 % risk to the baby with the HIV medications available now. So, I still consider myself a missionary at heart!

Sandra has worked extensively with a WMU ministry called Christian Women's Job Corps, a training program to help women to break out of the poverty cycle. She has worked in a program in downtown Jackson and now serves as a Coordinator for new sites around the state. She just returned from Moldova, in central Europe, on a prospective international site analysis for National WMU in Birmingham, AL.

Our daughter, Amy, is a Pediatric ICU nurse and is married and lives in Alameda, California where her husband, Ryan Parker from Brookhaven, is in a doctoral program at Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, CA.  Our son, Benny, is married to Windy Berry from Seminary, and is a Mechanical Engineer in the Altima Paint Division at the Canton Nissan plant. No grandkids yet, none on the way.

Sandra has had breast cancer, diagnosed in the summer of 2005. She had surgery and has completed chemotherapy and radiation treatment. Her most recent set of scans and x-rays in Nov 06 were still clear, so we were very happy for that.
